Degree Programs
Our Bachelor of Arts in theatre degree is designed on a 鈥渃ontract鈥 basis and is tailored to meet the needs and goals of each individual student.
Every theatre major receives a thorough education throughout all aspects of theatre and drama and is able to use that education as the building block for a focus in their preferred area of theatre. Students are able to gain more extensive knowledge and experience in areas such as performance, musical theatre, design, stage management and directing through advanced coursework, practicum lab experience in production work, internships, capstone projects, and by assisting faculty and guest artists in our production program.
We ask our majors to meet with their theatre advisors as soon as possible to begin a in order to tailor their curriculum to their specific interest. Sophomore and junior theatre majors fill out a and meet with the faculty annually to make sure they鈥檙e on track.
Double and Composite Majors
Students with a broader range of academic interests have options when pursuing their major in theatre.
- COMPOSITE MAJORS
- Some of our students have tailored their course of study by choosing a composite major. While we don鈥檛 offer a musical theatre major within the department, students have worked with the departments of theatre, music, and dance and the registrar to form a musical theatre composite major.

Program Outcomes

- Create: possess the artistic skills and craft to fulfill an integral role within a theatrical production
- Collaborate: demonstrate their ability to effectively engage with fellow artists to realize a cohesive/unified theatrical event
- Communicate: articulate, in written, oral, and visual communication, their understanding and vision of theatre, whether in production, critical response, or personal theatrical aesthetic
- Contextualize: synthesize historical and cultural contexts within the contemporary theatrical and socio-political framework
First Year in a Theatre Major?
Register for THEA 105 - Introduction to Theatre Practice, and either THEA 161 - Acting I (performance track) or THEA 270 - Stage Production I: Lighting Technology and Stage Management (tech/design track).
